SIF AUM jumps 29 pc to Rs 17,858 cr in Jun; hybrid strategies hold 72 pc share

11 Mins Read

New Delhi, the assets under management (AUM) of Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs) climbed 29% month-on-month to Rs 17,858 crore by end-June 2026, supported by strong investor flows into hybrid strategies, as per Amfi data.

SIF AUM was up from Rs 13,814 crore in May, with monthly inflows rising sharply to Rs 3,782 crore compared with Rs 1,396 crore in the previous month.

Sebi had rolled out the SIF framework in February 2025 to fill the space between conventional mutual funds and high-ticket Portfolio Management Services (PMS). These products are aimed at sophisticated investors and allow greater flexibility through hedging, derivatives and long-short approaches.

ValueMetrics Mutual Fund & SIF Flow Meter data showed that hybrid strategies remained the mainstay of the SIF segment, making up 72% of total SIF AUM, or Rs 12,822 crore, as of June 30.

Within hybrids, long-short funds were the clear leaders, managing Rs 11,910 crore and accounting for 67% of the overall SIF industry AUM.

Equity-focused SIF strategies formed the balance 28% of SIF AUM, amounting to Rs 5,036 crore.

Hybrid long-short funds drew inflows of Rs 2,043 crore in June, a sharp jump from over Rs 707 crore in May. From October 2024 till June 2026, this strategy has accumulated Rs 11,568 crore of inflows, representing 66% of all SIF inflows, the report noted.

Equity-oriented SIF strategies garnered Rs 1,097 crore in June, up 68% from Rs 652 crore in May. Since October 2024, cumulative inflows into this bucket have reached Rs 4,938 crore, contributing 28% of total SIF inflows.

Overall, cumulative inflows into SIFs since October 2024 have touched Rs 17,407 crore, signalling rising comfort and acceptance among investors for this relatively new structure.

In parallel, the broader mutual fund industry also saw steady investor engagement in June. Total mutual fund AUM increased to Rs 82.2 lakh crore, with active equity and hybrid schemes together recording net inflows of about Rs 36,000 crore.

Active equity mutual funds reported gross inflows of Rs 67,601 crore in June versus Rs 57,604 crore in May, while net inflows into these funds stood at Rs 28,973 crore.

Hybrid schemes (excluding arbitrage funds) posted net inflows of Rs 7,163 crore in June, higher than Rs 4,862 crore in May.

Gold ETFs staged a strong comeback, registering net inflows of Rs 3,443 crore in June after seeing net outflows of Rs 725 crore in the preceding month.

Systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions hit a new peak of Rs 31,781 crore in June, taking SIP AUM to Rs 17.70 lakh crore. The number of outstanding SIP accounts rose to 10.52 crore, aided by robust net new registrations, underscoring persistent retail participation despite market volatility.

According to Santosh Joseph, CEO of Germinate Investor Services, this trend underlines growing investor maturity. Instead of reacting emotionally, investors are increasingly using periods of better market momentum to stay committed to their long-term wealth creation plans.

He added that the strength in SIP flows and the revival in equity inflows are encouraging signs for the mutual fund industry and demonstrate continued faith in India’s long-term growth prospects.
